hey guys,

im a novice lighting tech from Sligo Ireland.


ok so i use a azure 2000, with 8 ypoc 250's, 2 ypoc 575's,strobe,lw cs400rgy and 10 thomann brand led cans.

its been working very well with no problems for the last year or so, then last week i downloaded 3/4 new personality's, this is problem one

when i extracted the files to the 3/4 there was tones of unwanted ones, and sometimes the one i was looking for wasn't even there. ( i always double checked to make sure i wasn't dreaming )

but after all that i got it shorted and got the fixtures i needed patched and ready to go.

only not to so ready to go as now the chases i record seem to have taken on a mind of there own. some thing iv never seen before as this desk has been so good to me for this past year.

so let me explain what's going on:

i set the ypocs on red and use the shape generator 9 to get them moving , i record a memory on memory key 20 .

(clear)

next i record the ypocs with a shutter iris and record this on 21.

so now when i go to play back i press 20, the ypocs move slow in red just as i wanted them to.

then i turn 20 off, and turn on 21, the lights flash i wanted them to.

but this is were it goes wrong, when i turn off 21 and go back to 20 this memory has taken on the shutter attribute of 21. this is the same for gobo's ect.

to get the fixture to do anything i have to locate the fixture , clear, and start again.

im really stuck here as i dont have a back up and cant really get a hold of one where i live,

please help as the longer this goes on the worse it seems to be getting.

It sounds like you have not recorded all the attributes you needed into all the cues. For example here I would guess you need shutter open in the 'slow red' cue but it is not there.

The simplest way to make sure everything is as you want is to use 'record by fixture' mode. I suspect you were in 'record by channel' mode which gives more flexibility but you have to be very accurate.

As an aside make sure you keep backups of shows on disk if you don't already. You can never do this too much.

im not sure what you mean, eg when i go to program a memory i
first select the fixture button, then i select the fixture page i have the fixtures patched to, i select the fixtures i want, set the attribute i need and use the record memory button to highlight the unused memorys,

iv been doing this for a year with no problems,

also i should have added , sometimes my ypoc575's will keep moving slowly after i turned the memory off, and will not play back any recorded memory till i use the locate button-clear.

Keep in mind I am only guessing at the problem, although it does sound like the most probable cause.

If you are not familiar, the manual chapter 5 covers the three important areas - HTP/LTP, programmer and record modes. These are fundamental in understanding how to program the console.

Lets say you select the fixtures and locate. At this point the dimmer is at full, shutter open and colour white etc. But none of these values are in the programmer. You then change colour to red, setup the slow movement and store. When you fire the cue it will appear to work fine.

However, because the shutter was already in the open state, you did not need to alter it and therefore it was not in the programmer when you stored the cue. If you were in 'record by fixture' mode this would not matter since all attribute values for selected fixtures will be stored anyway, but if you were in 'record by channel' then only the attributes you changed will be stored.

The second cue would contain a shutter strobe since you did have to change this but when you recall the first cue there is no change to the shutter value and therefore it continues to strobe.


So, bottom line - check the record mode! Or, if you want to use 'record by channel', be sure to nudge values into the programmer even if they are already correct on stage.

As for the slow movement check the P/T Speed attribute values.

i had a read of that there , i understand the idea of the two modes
but how do i know witch one im using when i record a memory?

Check in user preferences. Once set it should stay in that mode.

I use an azure shadow and to determine which recording mode you are in is pretty easy. When you press the "Record Memory" the lower left portion of the display changes your options. I believe "A" then shows whether you are in record by channel or record by fixture. The one you are reading is the mode you are in. Press the associated button (I think it is "A") to toggle to the other mode.
