How to freeze a shape in a chase

Postby devnull » 25 Aug 2010, 17:37

Hi to all,
I'm quite new to the pearl. I've a 2004 model, and I've recorded a 4 step chase with a movement shape inside.
When I press stop button only chase will stop, shape still goes on. Is it possible to program this effect with pearl 2004?
Reading operator's manual can't find anything about...

Stop is just pausing on the current step, so it is correct that the shape continues to run while the chase is still loaded (ie. raised fader).
The only way I can see to stop the shape would be to lower the fader. If you wanted to ensure it restarts from the same place when you next fire the chase you can set the mode 'fader starts/stops chase':

Program mode.
Fire chase.
[Chase Parameters]
Toggle softkey A until it reads [fader starts/stops chase].

Freeze a shape

Postby MbeNL » 07 Nov 2010, 03:44

Hi,

Can an update with the ability to freeze a shape coming? I would like to use this function with the Pearl Expert (Titan; last version).

I'd like to hear from you

Regarding Titan I'm thinking there might be two separate requests here:

First is the ability to 'freeze' a shape with its offsets.
Second is the ability to do this when you stop a chase.

Personally I believe the latter would essentially be wrong. For example you could have a sequence of unlinked chase steps each with a different shape. Each time you press go another shape runs. It's difficult to see how this functionality can live in harmony with the idea of freezing a shape with stop. Perhaps a playback option. Not sure.

The ability to freeze a shape makes more sense however. If you could set a shape speed to stop then you could certainly create a chase (most likely unlinked) where a step contains the same shape as a previous step but 'stopped'. When the 'stopped' step is reached the shape would freeze.

Actually it is already possible to do this using cue-lists. Create a cue-list and record a step with a shape. Using Playback Options set speed to fader. Raise the playback and press Go. The fader now controls speed and, because cue-lists kill with off by default, you can lower the fader all the way to zero and pause the shape. Raising the fader allows it to continue.

Does that help?
