Expert startup error

Had strange behavior of pearl expert today - after turning it on, there was no action on LCD or external screen and after few seconds I heard series of approximately 2 second long beeps. My intuition told me that this could be bios error code for problems with RAM memory so I removed memory sticks, cleaned their contacts and put them back in. It solved problem, but I wanted to be sure that this was the real cause or maybe this bios error code stands for something else.
