Powercubes, ArtNET & Expert

Postby (iCe) » 22 Feb 2010, 21:25

Hi,

In not too long we'll be receiving our first order of powercubes. I'm checking out the possibilities and ran into the ArtNET connection. I must admit that these new connection possiblities are all new to me, haven't seen anything but DMX untill now.

What are the options of artnet? I understand the DMX lines are translated into artnet and decoded on the other side again, right? Is the powercube also capable of outputting the decoded signal onto the dmx out ports? So I could run one artnet line to the stage and use the powercubes to output one or more dmx lines from the artnet signal?

Finally we received our powercubes. Very nice toys which I offcourse immediately tried out! I got the ArtNET running quite quickly, but I had a problem outputting multiple DMX lines on the DMX outputs.

I tried to acheive the following situation:
- Expert outputs Line A to Powercube universe 0 (A output)
- Expert outputs Line B to Powercube universe 1 (B output)

The powercube responded correctly to the selected universe in setup. On the expert, I setup the DMX output and added the both powercube nodes to lines A and B. The outputs on the powercube seemed to respond to the first patched universe, the second one didn't respond. There's also an option for setting the universe on the dmx outputs windows (defaults to 0), but again no satisfactory result.

Not possible yet or am I missing something? The manual mentiones features-to-come. Any idea on when? How to update a cube? I assume via the ethernet link?

As the manual indeed states,

The current software version only supports one Art-net universe
However the universe is available on both XLR sockets 8)

At the moment there is no planned date for a software release.
