Pearl(2004) Disk Drive...

Postby iadwm » 05 Sep 2008, 09:24

I have always found the Pearl disk drive to be a little unreliable and as a result keep multiple backups of important stuff. Just recently things seem to be getting worse, with new disk related problems occuring...

"can not initialize disk system" being a new one and corrupted show names being another.

I'm going to check the desk internally as soon as it's off the van, but I'm assuming I will need to replace the drive. Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement please; preferabley with a CPC part number (just so I don't actually have to do any work myself-apart from undo a few screws).

Cheers,

Andy

I have replaced the floppy drives in all our pearls and find that a standared floppy drive works fine. available from all computer shops for about €20.
Sounds a bit extream, but their's noting to lose, try opening the flap on the front and either injecting some compressed air or holding a vacum cleaner up to it.
