Putting it bluntly, Kati's problem turned out to be due to a chinese copy. And due to the advanced software protection from version 2008 on, the software doesn't run on non-genuine hardware.

Of course none here wants to accuse you to run a copy - and that's why many people are hesitant to answer.

Please ensure that the console is running the latest version of the AVOS and the software. It is possible that the console is running the Pearl 2004 software and therefore this is why the USB options do not appear. Note that some of the early 2008 consoles were sold with the 2004 software before the new software was released, some of these may not have been upgraded yet.

Lets say you have the latest AVOS and 2008 software running. On a real Avolites console. Go to the System menu with your key.
there you can press ‘B – System Information’ to check that the USB Memory Board is working. There should be a date below the ‘USB Memory Board:’ line, and it should display how many memory sticks are plugged in. (Remember that there is one inside the desk).
If not, i guess it's a hardware failure. (than contact your dealer or Avolites by e-mail)

(We had a few pearls with software crashes that was caused by bad default USB sticks supplied on the usb board. Replace of that USB solved the problem)
