Pearl Expert Power Fail

Postby Danzig4u » 15 Oct 2012, 18:38

I was preparing for a show and all of a sudden the power went out on my expert. I checked the cord and the extension cord I was using and both were still plunged in. I opened up the console and looked inside and it was dead. I tried the power switch and nothing I wigged the iec cable and when I had the front half way closed and flipped the main power switch I got a surge of power for a sec and then nothing. So I was going to switch it out for my tiger, and tried one last time by plugging it in to the wall directly. This time it started up and stayed on. I tried to load my show (expert) in to my tiger using the copy2008 converter program but got a file corrupted error. That is a different problem. So not having a back up I just decided to run my show with the expert. Well half way through the show it happened again. Same thing, no power, surge, then after about 2-3 min (one song) it started up once more. Does anyone have an idea. PSU maybe?

I talked to George over at the creative lighting, the usa distributor. He tolod me that the psu was a ats 450w or 550w .When I opened it up and looked at the power supply it was a FSP 250W (M/N FSP250-60GTB). I know he mentioned that it was s 450W-550W. I am thinking that my console is underpowered and that is causing an adverse reaction.

Can I put any 450W-550W PSU in there or does it need to be the one he mentioned?

My serial number is EXP343. It was one of the earlier models. I think this is one of my problems since with the titan upgrade ram was added and the board was modified to be more powerful. Do you know of anymore differences that may be the cure the other glitches? (Resetting)

250W is normal.

I have had a similar problem once. It turned out to be a screw had managed to get inside the PSU causing a short to case. While the chances of this happening once, let alone twice, is very unlikely I would check it out. Try booting into BIOS and give the board some gentle knocks.
