Fixture Personality Update

Postby DaveH » 24 Aug 2012, 23:28

I've encountered a problem on my Pearl Expert (v6) when attempteing to save updated personalities. Ill go into the patch menu and update personality, then make my changes. I save the personality and the desk asks me if I want to apply the changes to my show. I click yes, but the changes do not apply to my current show. They only seem to apply to freshly patched shows. Is there any way to force the desk to index the fixture library or does that only happen once the first time you patch.

Thanks

I was trying to adjust the locate values. Where most fixtures highlight in yellow and lowlight in blue my Chauvet Colorado 6s highlight with no color at all. I changed it and any subsequent shows worked correctly, but I could never get my original show to work.

It just occurred to me that I originally patched my show from simulator and transferred it to the console. The console has a fe month old personality file and several custom personalities. The simulator has the most recent personality library and none of my custom personalities. Perhaps there was some kind of conflict there. Does the editor pull from the show file or the library on the desk?

The editor uses the version from the library as far as I know. But you can adjust locate values from the software. Press record (cue) then locate.

Thats great that you can record your own locate values, another great timesaver.

I'm still having problems with trying to save a personality into a current show. Today I had the same problem with a new show and a different personality. I was trying to correct the chauvet color batten 144 personality from 13 ch as it is written to 12 channel tour mode as it should be.

Again I opened the personality made my changes and then saved them(as a 12ch mode), but the show personality was unchanged. I then re-opened the personality and it was how it had originally been in the library (13 ch). Somehow the personality didn't save.

I manually opened the folder found my personality, changed it, saved it and then went into patch for the first time so that it indexed all my personalities and from that point forward the personality (12 ch) worked as expected.

Unfortunately I am still unable to reproduce this problem.

I used the following steps:

(Console)
- New Show
- Patch 1x Chauvet COLORado Batten 144, Tour, 13 DMX
- Patch/[Edit Fixtures]/[Edit Personality]/[COLORado Batten 144]
(Personality Builder)
- In Modes/Tour, 13 DMX delete attribute 'ID Address'
- In Modes/Tour, 13 DMX change mapping of 'Block Select' to channel 12
- File/Save
(Console)
- [Yes] (to update)
- View/<select fixture> to confirm it has updated to 12ch

Some things to note:

- [Edit Personality] is a shortcut to opening the corresponding personality from the fixture library where the a file association makes it open in Personality Builder. This relies on matching the manufacturer, name and mode. If the file does not exist nothing will happen.
When you then save the file it effectively shortcuts to [update personality].

- If you open and edit the personality manually (ie. not via [Edit Personality]) then you must also manually use [Update Personality] to affect anything already patched.

- If you do not automatically see the option to update after saving the file use [Update Personality] to achieve the same thing. The file must be saved for this to work.

- If you make any changes to manufacturer/name or mode name then it will not be possible to update a fixture that is already patched. In this case you must restart the software and patch.

Thanks for the detailed answer, I believe I have sorted my problem. I had changed the fixture mode name so that's probably why it didn't update. Prior to that I updated a personality that only existed in my show file and not within my consoles fixture library.
