Expert - fader going bad?

Postby emoreth » 24 Aug 2012, 19:47

Playback fader 20 (the right-end one under roller B) sends out flickering levels when it isn't moving, especially if the last move was a fast push to full. I can assign any cue to it, push it up, then sit there and watch the level bar do a little dance on the HUD. Sometimes it drops the level by as much as half and continues a subtle flicker that looks a lot like a random dimmer shape (which it definitely isn't). Other times, it works normally.

This fader probably gets the most abuse of any on the console because it fades our intelligent lights in and out, so I suspect it's a hardware problem. Then again, I don't specifically remember having this issue before our upgrade to Titan 6, so I can't be sure it's not software.

The console is still under warranty. Should we try replacing the fader with one of the spares that came with it, or is there something else we should do first?

In my experience almost certainly a faulty fader. You can confirm hardware faults by opening Usb Console and looking at the events list in the centre.

Assuming it is faulty then replacing it is the solution although you might want to speak to your local distributor or service in the UK regarding the warranty.

I tried it with the USB Expert panel open. It's definitely sending out tons of values I never asked for, and our dealer has been informed of the problem.
Thanks for your help!
