VDU screen EXPERT gone after boot...

Postby m.vinken » 18 Jan 2009, 01:06

Hi,

I have a problem after the boot my VDU screen disapers. I see the BIOS info and the loading of windows but then the VDU goes blank. So it's not the grafics card. Anyone any idea?

Is there a shortcut keycombo like on al laptop? FN+ f1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 to toggle the screen. Because i think the grafic card shuts down the VGA output after boot.

It sounds like the monitor isn't supporting the resolution. Have a look through the BIOS options. I seem to remember there is something in there that could help.

There are some keyboard shortcuts to switch the monitor modes. I think Ctrl+F1 or Ctrl+F2 will switch it back to the VGA output. You also want to check in the BIOS that the VGA mode is set to 3. It could also be that your monitor does not support the settings. If you have one try a different monitor.

I have the exact same problem, CRTL+F1 isn't working, I've tried upto 4 different monitors and all have the same problem. I see the boot screen / BIOS but after that the monitor is saying "no signal". Who can help me out?

Update. The console seems to crash when changing the resolution. I managed to boot with VDU enabled by pressing F8 and choosing "Enable VGA" on boot. The console boots normally with the VDU set to 640x680 @ 8 bit. But when I open config panel and change the resolution (display settings); the monitor goes blank again and keyboard LEDs don't respond to capslock/numlock any longer. The console itself is locked up too.

I'm now reinstalling with the recovery disk, hope that helps.

The reinstall solution seemed to work for someone else with the problem. Bit of a pain though. Can only think is something wrong with drivers.

Worth making sure VGA mode is set to 3 in BIOS as per Olie's post.

Reinstall worked fine, console is working properly now. Bit of a pain indeed, but it seems to be fixed.

@#(&$&#$%

Booted the console today, screen is blank again. Not really considering running the recovery disk again.

What options do I have? I need a stable running (and booting) console this weekend!

I suggest contact service immediately:
email nick@avolites.com explaining problem and phone. There are often people there late in the evening.

Hi nic,

It sorted for now. I've booted in safe mode, deleted the display adapters and rebooted... everything was fine again. I think it's because we have a really old crt monitor attached which doesn't get high resolutions. I'm gonna get a proper one tomorrow and see what happens then.

Cool beans. If you have time it might still be useful to mail service and let them know about problem/solution. Sometimes it's the only way these things get sorted.

If you're looking for monitor I bought one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159248 Great - done a lot of shows already. Can't really fault it. Really useful to have the widescreen for the HUD.

Thanks, I don't know the brand and I don't think it's available here, but I'm sure all find one that fits. The widescreen idea is a good tip, what size did you get? 19"?

By the way, I'll e-mail nick about my problems just to make sure they fix it so someone else doesn't get stuck also.

Yes, 19. Sorry, I assumed you were in UK. I hadn't heard of make either but it turned out fine, so that's why I mentioned! Pretty much cheapest option.

Thanks, guess my English isn't that bad after all ;)

I'm sure I can find a nice OEM screen to match yours, I'll let you know :)
