PEARL EXPERT WISH LIST

Postby Nick » 14 Apr 2007, 08:52

It's time to talk about the Pearl Expert...
I have checked and use it for more than a month, and except the fact that there is only two wheels and no touch screen, it's a really nice desk...
but the software is really poor .
Ok, everything is faster with the new processor, but we need some extra thing to make the pearl one of the greteast desk ever!!

After talking with many people, here's a list of really usefull features (and most of them are present in many desk in the market...):

-User Settings:

Choice beetween accelleration wheel mode and "old mode" where you press twice for fine resolution, because many people don't like the new mode.

Activation/desactivation of locate button.

-New features:

ColorPicker, gell list (ROSCO,Lee)

Arkaos and Green hippo drivers

Autosave function

Undo/Redo function

Overlap function

Matrix function

memory mode 3

Multitiming (very very important...)

In Run mode "take over", the locate button can be modified as a "locate no pan no tilt"

In Run mode,"take over" possibility to always have ADD and SWOP for the dimmer channels

"Clear Clear mode"
( press one time clear will clear the programmer without deselect fixture,
two time will clear the programmer and deselect fixtures)

Change the Highlight and lolight parameters like the D4

Modify the Locate parameters for each fixtures

When Chase button is pressed, new softbutton "cue list"
-> when you whant to record a memory an a allready recorded cue list,
the memory will be the next step of the cue list ( it can also work with a chase...)

Each Playback swop and flash can be modified ( GO,Pause, back...)

A window (VDU) with all parameters included in a cue step or memory, where all timing
parameters can be modified with the mouse and keyboard on a graphical timeline

Graphical shape generator

Auto menu
->Auto group (all, odd, even)
->Auto palette

Grey palette can recall groups

Grey palette can recall shapes

Grey palette can recall shapes with no fixtures ( to apply for example a shape in a memory in quick palette mode)

Multi Fan ( Middle, Left, Right, End, Tilt)

Preset Faders can be memory or cue list

Preset Faders can be a generic LTP

Playback faders can control a shape size

Playback fader can control a shape speed

Playback fader can control a shape spread

-Visualiser

->set the stage dimension with the wheels A B
(Softbutton "Set stage dimension"
A width/ depth
B Height
C feet or meters
...)

-> set the position of each fixtures with the wheels A B
( select the fixture then softbutton "set fixture position"
A width/ depth
B Height
C X/ Y
d Z
...)

-> modify the beam position of selected fixture with the mouse ( or finger if we can use an external touch screen VDU)...

only two wheels and no touch screen

As I understand the number of wheels was debated but decision to stick with two was for both familiarity/Pearl 'family' and to minimise frame size.
The USB hardware system means that it is quite simple to change screen to touch sensitive in the future. This is one of the best examples of making use of USB panels.

Choice between acceleration wheel mode and "old mode" where you press twice for fine resolution, because many people don't like the new mode.

You can turn acceleration on/off through user settings & press twice is already implemented as a third quick-key speed option (now on all attributes rather than just PT)

Playback faders can control a shape size
Playback fader can control a shape speed

Obviously you can already do this for a long time, perhaps you meant Preset fader?

Anyhoo, the software is currently adapted from the simulator and was intended purely as a stop-gap to get the desk out and working with familiar and stable environment.
Completely new software is the next step based on D4. So most of your 'wishes' are very much anticipated to happen and was always the aim. Clearly it's a scandalous waste of processor power to be running an emulator but this is just temporary.

I can assure you everyone is very excited to get this happening, not least myself! It is my understanding that work on this will begin as soon as possible but given the nature of such things I wouldn't expect likely to be released for at least a year.

I'll add some of my own requests:

Virtual dimmer (!)
Assignable 'safe' faders, unaffected by master.
Softbutton palette pages user-arrangeable from palette memories.

Hi,

I know that for the moment it's only the simulator software, and at least this is not so bad because the desk is reliable. But for the moment people are waiting for the new features before buying the desk, or they are buying Ma desk because of the feature inside :( ...Hurry Up !!!

For the "old mode" 16 bits control, thank you.

I know that it is possible to control the size and speed in a playback fader with mode 2 recording, but i mean dedicated faders for all of them.
Ok, it require 4 faders for 1 shape memory ( Memory, size, speed, spread).

Virtual Dimmer is a nice idea for RGB LED fixture. Great.

Assignable 'safe' fader is also nice.

I have some other request:

Insert mark cue, like hog II desk

The possibility to copy/paste more than one memory at a time

what if there is a usb encoder wing, that will give you more wheels. And a little display above them and below them that shows what they are controlling and what percentage. It would also be cool if they were assignable so they could be laid out for the most user versatility. They you could have page buttons up at the top like page 1-5 or arrows so you can scroll through a virtual list of pages, also with a little led display that allows you to know what page your on, labeling capabilities of this page function would also be a benefit.

Expert v3?

Postby jhld » 22 Dec 2007, 20:11

I wholeheartedly hope Version 3 software will be a major upgrade...and soon!

If there is one thing I really really want, its to be able to "park" a fixture (the one thing I am jealous of the Hog)

…and I want my legends back on the monitor
