three old puzzles

Postby csgushen » 03 Jul 2007, 02:42

Hi all teachers,
Last year,I got a new pearl2004 and some new moving lights ——venis2500spot ,made in Beijing. There are strange problems puzzing me for a long time, that is,I’ve never seen my movers strobing(?wrong word)slowly. I am so sorry thatI don’t know how to say a verb that means movers flashing slowly and its function belongs to the attribute ——“iris/shutter”,I cannot use the wheel adjust the speed to a low frequency ,the trigger point is about 6% of shutter attribute(of course ,I had pressed the attribute button “iris/shutter”),but this frequency is still very very high。However ,I could achieve it easily on sim1.2 and vis7,with a personality of “vl3000_spot”,and in real circumstances,an operator from another company said with the same desk of pearl2004 and other kind of movers,he can spin wheels freely to get the effect of what I wanna see,how can I get this problem over?
The second problem is when I practise on the sim1.2 and vis7,why I cannot load “sg.dat”from the “A” drive of my computer, the simulator cannot find this file.
The last one is, I have 4 files of personalities for my movers venis2500spot,the names of four personalities are “xgsp22.r20”、“xgsp16.r20”、“xgws16.r20”、“xgws22.r20”,when I make pratice with these four *.R20 on sim1.2 and vis7,only “xgsp22.r20”can be loaded into sim1.2,it can only make the movers in the vis7 move but no light comes out anyway ,besides, the four *.R20 can be loaded into vis7,is there anything wrong with these files?
Thanks a million.

Please put the contents of r20 files in Code blocks in the future. It makes it more readable for the everyone.
Eg:
R20 contents
Also please note that in the personalities you've posted, you're using attributes too often. (e.g. you've used A twice in the second personality.)

There are only 2 times in a personality when you can use the same attribute. The fist time is with 16 bit channels. Both the 8 and 16 bit channels should have the same attribute letter. The second time is when using 0 (the number zero). The number 0 can be used as many times as desired.

Except in these circumstances, using attributes multiple times can cause problems when controlling the fixtures.

moderation note: I have deleted all other posts since they were just repeats of original. Please do not do this - it is not necessary ;)

Usually a shutter channel on a moving light will have many different settings. Most common will be closed, open and strobe with a range of speeds. Other options might include random strobe, ramping effects etc.

As with your question in another thread it depends on what your light can do. You must read the manual to find out exact information.

Try pushing up preset handle (fader), select fixture with blue SWOP button, select Iris/Shutter attribue and the very slowly move the shutter wheel and see what it does. Sometimes the settings must be precise - note the number in the display in brackets above the wheel - ie "50%(127)". The "127" is the actual DMX value and can range from 0-255 for each attribute.

If your fixture does not have a built in slow strobe you must program a chase. This might be a chase using shutter attribute on/off or dimmer channel on/off. Shutter attribute will usually have fastest response in the fixture but is sometimes not ideal for programming/operation. Fixtures vary in how fast the dimmer response is and might even have a separate attribute or lamp menu setting to define this.

SG.DAT does load/update from floppy drive on PC. Make sure the floppy disk contains the file with correct name.

Sorry but I don't have time to check Vis problem at the moment. Maybe someone else can help.

hi nic,
thank you anyway, you are great indeed, there are not good enough light forums in our country, but everything here is amazing for me.
a further question is,I am sure that sg.dat is the only file on my disk,I downloaded it from this forum, and its name is just "sg.dat",and pc cannot find it from A drive.so,why?

I'm not sure. Try saving a show from the actual console and see if the simulator can read the showfile from the floppy drive.
