Programming for house rigs

Postby Pheamer » 19 Feb 2007, 14:49

Hi,

How easy is it with a Pearl, to program a show, and then move from venue to venue, with different house rigs. Would the show need to be re-programmed for different fixtures, or can you just re-patch the desk and programs will still work?

Any thoughts?

You can adjust DMX address for patched fixtures, but that's all. You can't program a Martin unit and then replace it with a Vari-Lite etc.

But this would be a very strange thing to do anyway - all fixtures have different abilities/channels. Their location and trims will be different every night. You would essentially be reprogramming everything anyway.

It might make sense to add fixtures to a rig you are touring and for full touring production palettes were designed specifically to make allowance for different trim heights. But if you're not touring any lamps there is little point in taking just a desk except for familiarity where venues don't have a Pearl in-house.

Shame fixture exchange isn't possible on the pearl :( Would be a handy fixture for touring LDs, taking just some ground based LX & using house rigs.

Is it possible to do on Expert?

Expert software is the same as 2004 for now.

I'm unsure how effective a 'fixture exchange' might be - would you not end up having to manually adjust nearly everything anyway - ie. P/T for venue/trim height and other attributes for fixture specifics?

I do think that the ability to move handles without loss of data would be very useful.

All is theoretically possible in future builds for Expert.

Hi,

The best way to have a real fixture exchange capability is to work like the
ET Dimming Marquee lighting Desk.

This desk work only in degrees for Pan, Tilt, Zoom and gobo index,
In Hertz for Strobe
In colours in Colour wheel.

That mean that if i have a memory of an VL3K with 30° Pan, and red colours in a colours wheel, and 12Hz strobe, i will have 30° Pan, red coulours in colour wheel and 12Hz strobe with a Mac 2K ... because this desk didn't work using absolute Dmx values.
The Home Position is always 0° For Pan and Tilt.

Of course everything is written in the device file for every fixtures...
