Independent memory/cue

Hi!

I wonder if there is a function that will allow me to have the lights for the parquet and balconys totally independent from the programmer, like there is three totally independent knobs on the Conco JR consoles. As for know, as a more or less newbie, I am struggling with how I can exclude those lights from programming, as I do want to control them during rehearsals and when the audience are coming and going.

Now I have a memory for them on the macro/executers button, but when I do Record by stage to transform my lighting into a cue, also the rehearsal light will follow of course, and Record by stage is completely what I want to do, but with excluding my rehearsal lights permanently all the time. Would Quick build be the solution to exclude them? If I select a group of lights with the rehearsal lights unselected but still activated on the macro buttons, I guess they still will be recorded in the Record by Stage mode, right?


Is there any easy smart way for this that I have missed?

There's no specific function I can think of to do this but there is a possible solution:

The rule for record by stage is to record all attributes of fixtures whose intensity is above zero. Therefore by using non-dimmer attributes to control you can exclude them from record by stage. The main limitation of this is that non-dimmer attributes won't naturally fade by fader but you can solve this by setting the relevant playback(s) to mode 2 if required.

This will probably require a custom personality but is very simple.

Steps (this assumes you were previously using just dimmers/is single channel control):

(In Personality Builder)
- New file
- In the Fixture properties enter something meaningful into the manufacturer, name and display name fields
- Select the 'Attributes' section in the tree
- Double-click on 'Reserved' from the attribute templates to add a 'Reserved' attribute
- Double-click on 'Dimmer' from the attribute templates to add a 'Dimmer' attribute
- Select the Reserved attribute in the tree
- Double-click on 'Raw DMX' from the function templates to add a Raw DMX function to the Reserved attribute
- Select the Dimmer attribute in the tree
- Double-click on '8bit Dimmer' from the function templates to add a Dimmer function to the Dimmer attribute
- Select the 'Modes' section in the tree
- Double-click on the 'Mode 1' from the modes templates to add a mode called Mode 1
- Select 'Mode 1' in the tree
- Double-click on the 'Reserved' attribute from Created Attributes to add the reserved attribute to the mode
- Double-click on the 'Dimmer' attribute from Created Attributes to add the Dimmer attribute to the mode
- Select the 'Channels' tab at the bottom to show the Channel Assignment grid
- Select the Dimmer resolution cell and choose 'None' from the drop-down list
- Select the Dimmer Channel Offset cell and delete the number
- Select Save As from the File menu. If you are on a PC navigate to Documents\Titan\Personalities and save it there. If you are on a console navigate to D:\Personalities and save it there.
- Close Personality Builder
- If you are on a console restart the software from the tools menu. If you are on a PC and Titan is already running close and relaunch the software.

(In Titan)
- Patch the new fixture to the fixture address (note that it will have '(User)' appended)
- Select the fixture, choose the 'Special' attribute group and adjust to the required (maximum) level as required
- Record (toggle mode to [Channel]) and select destination handle
- Set the reserved value back to zero
- Clear
- If the handle is a fader and you want to adjust the value by fader select [Edit Times], choose playback handle and toggle fade mode to [Mode 2 Fade to Fader]
- Exit
- Lift/fire playback to test
- With playback live Record/ toggle mode back to [Stage] and record a new playback
- Lower/kill playback
- Fire new playback

= the 'excluded' channels should remain off.


This might look complicated but is only because I have listed all the necessary steps. Creating the personality only needs to be done once and it's all quite easy really.

I have a similar question.
I have a set of DMX contactors that power up toof mounted moving lights.
Problem is if I use the grand master it drops the contactor out!

Are cue stacks independent of Playback master? Even if on the playback window rather than on a fader.
I could use a cue stack but then any other cue stack will not have a master fader just its own fader.

There is the Generic LTP or Generic Relay personalities which both have a single LTP channel which therefore will not be affected by the grand master, playback faders or group masters. When a Generic LTP fixture recorded into a single cue/memory you can set it to Mode 2 so that the fader controls the level but it still won't be affected by the grand master. For either personality you can set a release mask for the playback so that when the playback is killed the value will return to zero.

Thanks will try that. I knew there would be a way.

So what is the difference between Grand Master and Playback master as both seem to do the same?

Or is it something on desks which my Titan 1 doesn't have access to.

The Playback Master only effects playbacks whereas the Grand Master will effect all dimmer values regardless of where they are being set, this includes values in the programmer or from preset faders (although you won't have these).
