Virtual dimmer on fixture with fysical Dimmer.

Postby djbbe » 20 Apr 2015, 18:18

Is it possible to add a virtual dimmer to the cells of a fixture when the fixture has a fysical dimmer?
for example the Briteq BTW07-l12

1-10 master channels including 9=dimmer
11-12-13-14 = RGBW Cell 1
15-16-17-18 = RGBW Cell 2
19-20-21-22 = RGBW Cell 3
23-24-25-26 = RGBW Cell 4

27-28 = Color macros

i Would like a virtual dimmer on each cell.
Thx in advance.

You can, it just won't light on stage when you locate the master fixture. Sometimes I create a 'Master Dimmer' attribute that defaults to full with the standard 'Dimmer' as a virtual channel. The disadvantage of this is only the 'Dimmer' attribute is HTP so the 'Master Dimmer' won't clear to zero or fade by fader etc. The importance of this largely depends on the other functions in the fixture. For example, if the fixture just had master dimmer + some RGB cells we can lock the physical master dimmer at full and use a virtual one for all the cells without issue. But if the fixture has some effects or macros that depend on the physical dimmer it can be an issue and we need to compromise one way or the other.
