Tiger Touch: Controlling DMX Value (0-255) with a Fader

Postby Richard Wagner » 07 Aug 2014, 21:09

Hey there,

I am using the TigerTouch Console. ( Not Tiger Touch II)

My question is following:
Is it possible to control the DMX Value ( for example for Colour or Shutter) with a playback fader?
Like when my fader is on 50% the DMX Value is 128, 100% = 255 and so on.

Thanks for your advices and answers!

Hi,

of course is this possible - essentially, that's exactly how it works - except that the value is displayed as percentage. If you want to change this, a little tweaking is necessary with the persomality.

If you could give a more detailled description of what you want to do...

Let's say i am recording a cue on a fader for a fixture, a LED moving head. This cue can only save one specific shutter adjustment (e.g. shutter open)
What i want to do is to go through all shutter options (like open, shut, strobe) with one fader. Do you understand what i would like to do?

If you go to [Edit Times] and then select the playback you can toggle the mode until it is [Mode 2 - Fade by fader].

This will then allow you to fade from an existing function/value through to the value stored in the playback proportional to the fader level.

Wasn't it like: in Fadermode 2 it jumps to the start of the range where the target value is, and fades only through that range? Usually this makes much sense, because e.g. you might want to fade in the strobe from slow to fast, but you don't want to go through all the random/pulse ranges.

However, if you really want to go through all the values, I'd use the 'Raw DMX' range, which goes from 0 through 255.

So: instead of using 'Shutter: Open' as the target value, use the appropriate DMX value in Raw DMX. Then set the cue to Fadermode 2.

Thank You very much, both of you!

But i've got more question to the Raw DMX. Is there a specific menu for the Raw DMX on the TigerTouch or does the availability depend on your fixture? I've got a GLP 120 RZ and if i click through attributes, the Raw DMX is just available in Colour. Thanks alot again!

Yes, you are right: this needs to be in the personality. However, if you tell us for which fixture you need it, we can do this for you.

Where are you from, btw.? (screen name sounds rather german...)

Do you mean, there is a way to use the Raw DMX function, even if there is none in the personality? My fixtures are GLP 120 RZ
I am from Germany indeed. Are we allowed to talk in german in the forum?

As Sebastian says there is a 'fade across ranges' rule for mode 2 which determines how to go from one function to another where one or the other are fixed or variable. Most of the time this works very well.

There is currently no way to get raw access. It is entirely dependent on the personality. Typically raw functions are usually added where we use a conditional system (fixed colours, gobo's etc.). Sometimes I also put them in if the fixture documentation is unclear to give people options just in case. It is quite easy to edit and add raw or other functions if you need but initiallly I would see if it works ok for you as it is.
