Fixture order problem in group - FAN mode incorrect

I want to use the FAN mode for 4 fixtures.
If I select the fixtures manuaully (first 1, then 2, etc) and use the FAN mode, it works correctly.
When I select a group with these 4 fixtures the FAN mode result is strange, I guess because of the wrong order.
I pressed VIEW and the Group button -> In the Group Layout Editor the table had 2 rows and to much colums. The order was incorrect and inbetween 2 pairs of fixtures there was even an empty space.
Changed the table to 1 row with colums and ordered the fixtures according the numbers in the Fixture window number in the left hand upper corner.
Tried again but same results.
Any idea how to solve this?

By exploring the manual I found the answer here:

I was changing the layout before, not the order.
