T3 and T1 (first gen) on same computer

HI All

I recently purchased the T3 and am using version 16, however, I have a first gen T1 which I would like to use for quick programming when my bigger console isn't necessary. My understanding is that I can't use a first gen T1 on any software later than 11.4 without a key. Is there any way I can use my T3 and T1 on version 16 do I need to purchase separate hardware to use the console (t1) I already own?
