Pixel mapper control dimmer, not colour

Postby htevents » 27 Mar 2019, 12:57

I know this is asked in some topics already, but I couldn''t find a satisfying answer.

I am running Titan V10.1 and have a few fixtures. Some spot moving heads and some RGB led par fixtures.

I want to create an effect as following: a "bar" that moves diagonal across the fixtures. This should affect dimmer, not colour. Is this possible with the pixel mapper as I currently only know the colour functionalities of the pixel mapper?
If not, are there other ways of creating that effect without programming an enormous amount of chases?

It is not currently possible to choose which attributes that a pixel map effect will run on, it will always use colour mixing channels if available and only if they are not there will it use the dimmer channel. You may be able to achieve the effect you are after using key frame shapes with a frame at 0% followed by a frame at 100%, then change the Fixture Overlap of the shape to get the desired spacing of the 2nd 100% frame. Key frame shapes will follow the group layout and you can specify different directions as required (normal shapes can also use the group layout and have direction but do not have as many options).

There is a workaround.

Patch dimmers -> pixel mapper -> loop dmx value in -> trigger cues with intensity on the fixture you want to control.

@ Havard: Can you explain in a little more detail? If I get you right: I have to patch pixelmap dimmers on the DMX channels where the dimmer channels of my (non colour mixing) fixtures are? But how about when I have a combination of Non RGB fixtures (with dimmer channel) and RGB fixtures without a dedicated dimmer channel (only RGB mixing)?

@Gregory: Did Avolites already add this function with the new software version or are they planning to add this? I really miss this future on an Avolites, but I don't want to switch to another desk, just for that function, but it's a very usefull function.

Patch new dimmers to dummy addresses that don't control any lights in your rig. Run the pixel map effect on those dimmers.
Use DMX triggers from the dummy addresses you patched to trigger cues.

Did Avolites already add this function with the new software version

No, this hasn't changed in recent versions.

are they planning to add this
