When enabled it provides a way to clearly see which fixture(s) are currently in the editor while also being able to view all the other fixtures relative to one another.

The highlight/lowlight values are defined in the personality and, where fixtures have colour controls, lowlight is assigned to blue and highlight to yellow (or as close as is available). Where fixtures only have fixed colour wheels (as opposed to colour mixing) this assumes the fixed colours are documented when writing the personality.

A typical use case will be when adjusting positions. For example select all your moving spots, enable highlight and then press next fixture to select the first fixture. In fixtures with colour controls this will cause all the fixtures to go blue with the one in the editor in yellow. You can then adjust the position of this fixture and clearly see which one you are currently controlling as well as seeing how the position relates to all the other spots. Then press next fixture to move onto the next one and so on until you have them all positioned as required.
