Trying to figure out how to put a color (white) chase over a set color in my rgb fixtures. Example: rgb is red and I want a chase to go from this color to white and back to the original color. I accidentally did this once and can't figure out what I did

Record chase where step 1 is white, step 2 empty. Set playback mask to include colour, release time 0sec and turn cue release on in playback options.

By empty do you mean to clear after recording step 1?
