Cannot load shows after update to V 8.0

I've just updated from V 7.5 to V 8.0 and most of my saved shows won't load. It just says 'failed to load show' which is not very helpful.
Thank god I did this after my big show at the weekend or I'd be totally screwed. I've still lost days of programming.
Is this a 'feature' of V 8.0? Is there anyway I can retrieve my show files? Would trying to go back to V 7.5 help?
I saved regularly, but it's not much use if they don't load!
