Titan One and Showtec LED Par 56 Short, RGB modes does fade?

Postby elsinga » 05 Mar 2016, 11:30

Hi all!

I have just purchased a Titan One and connected it to my 3 Showtec LED Par 56 Short Eco fixtures. I added the 3 fixtures like this: In Titan One: Patch, Fixtures, Showtec, Led Par 56 Short, 6 DMX.
Quantity = 3, DMX Line = 1, Address = 1, User Number = 1, Legend <blank>, Patch Showtec LED Par 56 Short.

The 3 Showtec LED Par 56 Short fixtures are set to DMX address 1, 7 and 13 as per the manual:

I checked the Personality online and the channels are identical (although channel 5 has a different description, but strobe and shutter do the same):

In Titan One they now look like this:

I also added a colour preset like this (multiple settings pasted in one image):

But strangely, as I select one or more of the fixtures, click a colour preset and set the dimmer to 100%, they do a fade in from 0% to 100%, drop to 0% again and start the fade in again. Mode is set to RGB, not 7 Col Fade or 7 Col Change. Doing a RAW DMX from 0 to 63 in Mode (which should set it to RGB) also has no effect.

Also the Dimmer setting doesn't seem to dim (I can set it to 0, but anything from 4 and up sets it to 100%). And the 7 Col Fade only fades the current coloour, 7 COl Change works as expected.

I am puzzled, the personality looks fine but the fixtures do not work as expected... What am I doing wrong here?

Note: using the fixtures with a hardware controller (Showtec Led Operator 1) works fine.

The most likely explanation (and the only one I can think of) is that the manual is wrong in channel 6 and that it needs to be at zero (rather than anything from 0-63). It sounds like you have tried this but I may have misunderstood. Anyway, I have adjusted this and the revised version should be available in the morning.

You could also prove this easily by patching 6x dimmers. With all at zero, raising the first three channels should affect RGB respectively.

Thanks for your reply and action! :)

Actually the Mode RAW DMX value is 0 and we tried a couple of other values, but no luck.

We will try the 6x dimmer trick, so we can manipulate all 6 channels by hand and see what happens. Thanks fot the suggestion, didn't think of that... ;)

How did you set raw mode values? Did you edit the personality?

Okay, 6x dimmer did as we expected on channels 1-5, but on the mode channel the Showtec manual was unaccurate.

Value = 0 does permanent colours (as we want), but going up in value triggered a current clour fade (as we see with the current personality). Going over 25%/50%/etc does as we would expect from the mode, but changes the fade time just as the 0..63 values do.

Conclusion: with channel 6 (Mode) at 0, no fading occurs. Higher values do fade.

Thank you for changing the personality, we will download the new one in a few days (so you don't have to rush things ;) ). Thanks for your help!

No, we used the RAW DMX button on the fixture attributes.

We just downloaded the latest version and it works like expected now. Thanks!

If you have some spare time, you could also add DMX channel 6 values 1..63 as an extra mode "RGB fade". Just for completeness. ;)
