Trying to fix a personality .......

Postby clublights » 18 Apr 2014, 05:55

SO I have an issue with my Elation Color Spot 250's I need help with .

They respond to Pan and Tilt VERY Slowly in the programmer. you crank the wheels around and around and get very little movement from the fixtures ( once programmed they respond correctly to a position pallette or a saved memory moving "instantly" or at the correct fade time) . IF I hold the AVO key wheel turning the wheels they move VERY FAST almost too hard to control.

No other fixtures in my rig have the problem ( Elation 15r, Studio Color 575,, Mac 700's )

I'm not even sure what to put exactly in the bug report to explain it other then the long winded report here. I'm using the 16bit mode but then all my other fixtures are 16bit P/T also and they don't have the issue.

How can I fix this in the personality/ have this fixed in the personality? OR can someone just explain WHY they behave this way.

Very much sounds like having to do with the speed channel, which locates to 'tracking'. Set the speed to something else - probably '100%', and see if the fixture behaves correctly. Try to find a value at which you can control it correctly. Then you can
- store this as 'your' locate value with <Record>+<Locate>
- edit the personality yourself
- file this as a bug report, to adjust the locate value to some other value than 'Tracking'.

If that speed thing doesn't help, then you need to find the correct settings manually - either patch a number of dimmer channels, to control the fixture in the old-fashined way, or the personality needs to be edited in a way that each attribute includes a 'Raw DMX' function. But I am almost sure the speed setting will fix the issue (I had the same problem with various GLP fixtures - personalities have then been changed a while ago)

While it's true that there are often issues with P/T speed channel locate values where manufacturers don't provide details (typically for single 0-255 ranges), this would affect everything including recalling palettes/cues and fast wheels etc.

The fact that this is only an issue when wheeling makes me think it is to do with the physical settings in the personality and how they are interacting with the pan/tilt wheel limits in Titan. Another clue would be that the wheel display changes equally slowly, matching the fixture position. If it were a fixture timing channel issue the wheel display would follow the movement of the wheel and the fixture would play catch-up.

I notice that this personality does have max pan and tilt speed values defined in the physical section.

Go to user settings/[Wheel Sensitivity] and try adjusting the Pan and Tilt threshold values.

If that doesn't help then we need to change the values in the personality. Select 'physical' in Personality Builder and then change both the pan and tilt speed property values in the bottom right (currently 3 and 2) to zero. Leave the limit values.

Just to follow-up, I have now tested this and it is definitely the physical settings in the personality. Changing or disabling threshold in user settings wheel sensitivity doesn't help much. Change the physical maximum pan and tilt speed to zero in the personality and it will work normally. I will update the fixture in the library to suit.

Ok I was able to test

that seemed to fix the issue. now they move like any other mover on the desk !

I also have one other issue..

Titan seems to refuse to update the personality. I had to exchange the fixture to get it to go .. then under update personality it shows an update for the spot 250's but no matter how many times I tell it to update it, it still shows the update there...

Idea's ?

Still waiting for any ideas on this one ..

even if I create a new show patch just a Elation Colour Spot 250

exit patch
then reenter patch
go to edit fixture then update personality it shows an update ..
hit update.. then check again .. same thing.

this is with only the stock Avo made profile installed.

Sorry, slipped through the net. Will try and get it done ASAP.

Not had time to look into the update issue. Perhaps someone else can?

Cool Cool

I understand the getting busy

I assume you handle all the personality bug reports ?

If so or you can pass on ..

I'm currently harassing Elation about the Platinum Spot 15R Pro to fix the DMX traits sheet... they are taking a long time for some reason.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. Conflicting documentation on their website, mailed them, then again. They replied saying it had been forwarded. Mailed again. Still nothing.

So whatever you did to the Color 250 profile fixed the updating issue ... THANKS!

I'm in contact with the product specialist for the 15r now still working on getting the full trait sheet produced ...

You're welcome.

Great news about the 15r. If you can make it clear to them that they have two conflicting charts (manual vs. dmx traits) that would be very helpful. Otherwise I can imagine they will just grab one or the other and assume that's the one. Currently the personality matches the dmx traits one so in all likelihood the manual version is the correct one but we need to be sure.

Actually there are 3 conflicting trait sheets

The Cut sheet shows 8 colors ( plus open ) and 8 rotating Gobo’s ( plus open)
The DMX trait sheet shows 10 colors( plus open) and 7 Rotating Gobo’s ( plus open)
The Manual shows 6 colors ( plus open) and 8 rotating Gobo’s ( plus open)

I know it has the 8Rgobo's as I've tested raw DMX with my fixture ...
the 15r basic has 8 colors so I'm pretty sure the 15Rpro has only 8 colors ( plus CMY)
So everything is out of wack LOL
