Doesn't really matter which you use. Connect both TM machine and LC machine to router using any of the four LAN ports. Assuming your TM and LC machine are set to obtain addresses automatically (DHCP) then they should both get valid IP's assigned by the router. It should then just be a matter of adding an Art-Net node to a line in Titan DMX Settings and assigning the Art-Net universe in LC.

So, does that mean I have to assign each universe in TM and LC? And, does each universe get its own ip address, or is it just saying which universes get broadcast on the one address? Also, I don't have to plug the TM into the Input port of the router, just any of the other four? And just to clarify, I need to connect it from the TM wing itself and not the host computer's ethernet port, correct? I want to understand it first with TM and then I can simulate it in TS. I think I was getting the two confused.
Thanks again,
Bryan

Yes, you must assign in both TM and LC separately. All universes run on one IP. The input port of that router is for internet (WAN). You should use the LAN ports. You must connect from host computers ethernet port. As far as I am aware the TM doesn't have one.

You are correct. It has two usb ports and a midi in. I was thinking it was one usb port and an ethernet. My mistake. Okay, so then from the host to one of the LAN ports and the laptop to another one of the LAN ports, then set the addresses in each of the programs to same addresses assigned to the computers (for that connection). Got it. I can try it with TS first with my desktop here at home through the router or switch. I had connected the two before to have access to everything at once, however, it became unstable or something and windows explorer kept crashing. With that one I was attempting to use the laptop as a wireless gateway for the other. Never did get internet access for the desktop. So maybe this one will work better, since it doesn't need internet and I don't have to select that option. Sounds good. But with the loopback (which I installed, btw) it would pretty much be the same, right?
Thanks,
Bryan

Just thought of something. Wouldn't each universe get its own ip address that needs to be assigned by the router, or just one for ArtNet itself and the computer? Same goes if it were running fixtues over ArtNet through ethernet/dmx hubs (not sure what they're called). Wouldn't they need to be addressed separately as hardware? And they would be running separate universes. So, it stands to reason they would each get their own ip address and, I'm guessing, Titan would need to be open when the connection starts, so it can request all the ip's it needs? Or will it just do that whenever it first starts up?
Thanks again,

Cool. And thanks for the ArtNet reference. Where can I get info on building and editing personalities, shape files, midi, etc.? I want to be able to solve my own problems and build what I want. I was an Electronics Specialist with a defense contractor back in the 90's so I know I can handle it. I just need to be pointed in the right direction, such as this.
Many thanks,

I've never played with shape files or MIDI( tho I'd like to learn more on the MIDI stuff) but for personality files I taught myself by reading a bit of the site here and trial and error ...

Just pick a fixture that even already has a personality file if need be and look how other ones are built and play till you get it to work how you like.

I used this method to make files( with vis files ) for my scrollers, scrollers I rent often ( so that all the colors would auto pallete) and made a personality for Arkaos MediaMaster Express that actually works ... well works in my head about 1000% times better.

Oh and from my experience of MMexpress work from an empty show file with only the fixture your working on in it .. and if you make major changes start clean new show. for some reason even if you delta a fixture or update the personality some weird issues where stuff " sticks around" would pop up quite annoying. of course I did that all in V6 so maybe V7 doesn't
