Un-installing Titan Simulator 5.0 completely

I had installed the Titan Simulator 5.0 on my laptop and was playing around with the software. All of a sudden it crashed and would not re-load - even after multiple restarts of the laptop.
So I un-installed software and tried re-installing it. Now the problem is that it says that the USBExpert, CITP Active fixtures and the Simulator are already installed and up-to-date and so are not installed. Because of this the software does not run any more!
Any suggestions for a clean un-install of the software?

If you look in Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs is there any mention of these applications? If so remove from there.

I tried removing it from the control panel add/remove program function, but the problem persists.

Today I tried installing the 4.2 version of the same software, but the USB Expert and the CITP problem persists. The Simulator is now installed and the program runs.

Now when I try to open the Pearl Titan, I get the message that the ACW Service is not started. What exactly is this ACW Service and how do I start it?

Launch Usb Expert (Start/Avolites/), go to the Tools menu, ACW Service and select Start.

If it allowed you to install 4.2 then I would expect 5.0 to work too.

The USB Expert and the CITP Active Fixtures problem is still there. They are not getting installed and I get the message that the latest version is already installed.

Also there is only Log Collector and Event Log Viewer in the Tools sub-menu

'ACW Service not running' was a startup timing problem in 4.2, you needed to start the service manually before starting the simulator. Easiest way to start the service: open a command line (Win+R), and type

Code: Select all

net start "Avolites Expert USB"
Better: open a console window (Win+R, cmd) and then type the command; this way you'll see possible error messages.

However, best way would be, like Nic has stated, to completely remove all Avolites related programs via control panel, Add/remove programs:
- Avolites Titan
- Avolites Visualiser
- Avolites Personality Builder
- Avolites Virtual Panel
- CITP Active Fixture
- Titan Mobile
- Titan Mobile and Simulator
- Titan Simulator
- USB Expert
(IIRC 'Titan Mobile and Simulator' is the all-in-one package, so: start removing this, and then clean up the rest). Then: restart the computer, and install version 5.

If you're still encountering problems: possible errors are displayed during the install process, so, instead of just closing the window, click in the message window, select All (ctrl+A), copy&paste it into a text file, and send it by email, or post it somewhere (please not here - will be too long). Or: find the install logs in C:\ProgramData\Avolites\Install (I'm on a W7 box).

Which windows version are you running at?

Don't worry about log collector or event log viewer.

Next option: 'Windows Installer Cleanup utility (MSICUU2.exe)'.

Microsoft have kindly stopped hosting this file but you should still be able to download it elsewhere. This is useful for removing applications that don't show in Add or Remove Programs and I've used it to solve similar issues before during development testing. Just be careful not to remove anything other than the Avolites stuff!
