It is my understanding that the wings can be used with console models above them but not below.
ie: The Mobile Wing can be used with Tiger Touch but Tiger Touch Wing can not be used with Mobile.

As I understand it not all brands of USB Sticks are capable of being formatted as a start up drive (which is what the BIOS upgrade creator is doing to the stick) so try a different brand.
Also the USB Stick must be 4GB or less any thing larger than a 4GB will fail.

Have you tried updating the software license. I had a similar problem updating to 8.0 but doing the licensing procedure fixed it.

On a Pearl Expert Pro I adjust the back light intensity down to 30 percent on the internal LCD Display and when the console restarts the intensity is back to full but shows as 30. Move the wheel just slightly and the intensity jumps to the recorded setting. I have had this happen in V7 and V8.
