I tried this and it works fine, though a colour wheel seems to always snap to it's new value, as opposed to for instance pan/tilt which listens to the time input. Is it just LED fixtures that freeze the console? If so, what fixture are you using and in which mode?

We use Serial (RS232) to USB converters at Avolites these days and plug the cables in as USB. They can be brought through our shop (http://www.avolitesshop.co.uk/acatalog/spare_parts.html), or alternatively you might be able to find them elsewhere online.
